Getting Started: Learning the UI

Welcome to HVAC 4.0. In this document we will be discussing the main user interface.

Our goal is to give you, the user, the tools you need to quickly navigate this application and focus on the learning!

The new general user interface is divided into three (3) main parts:
Header
Content Area
Sidebar

Learning the UI / The Header

The header contains the name of the app (HVAC 4.0) and links to different functions of this app.

Selected Link will be highlighted in white
Unselected Links will appear in blue

This link will
lead you to the
simulation content
Badges
This link will
let you check
your progress
Leaderboards
This link will show
you how you stand
against other users.

Selecting Your Content
The interactive Learning Path outline lets you quickly access all of the content this app has to offer.

Click to expand, or collapse the layers of content
Check-mark Icons
Highlighted check-marks indicate that
you have completed a lesson.

Learning the UI / Content Modules and Modes

Mode Selection
Once you select a module to study, you will have the option to choose Training Mode or Challenge Mode
Module Information
Badge Indicators
The badge shows completion of a mode
Training Mode offers guided tutorials
Challenge Mode lets you apply your learning through interactive quizzing and open-ended troubleshooting scenarios
Progress Indicators
The numbers on the right here shows you your progress on each of these modes.

Tips for Mouse and Keyboard Navigation

Here are some tips on how to navigate around the HVAC Troubleshooting environment and objects.
Note: this applies only to users using a mouse and keyboard

Holding down and dragging the left mouse button or using the arrow keys will allow you to move around the object.
Holding down and dragging the right mouse button, using the scroll wheel, or using the ‘I’ and ‘O’ keys will allow you to zoom in and out.
Double clicking on an important component like a motor or switch will bring up a menu of options to choose.

Selecting Faults
As you work through the Electricity for HVAC modules, you will notice that some tutorials include a list of faults, indicated by the X icon and slide-out in the side bar. This slide-out allows the user to turn on/off various faults that may occur in the diagram.

As you work through the Electricity for HVAC modules, you will notice a toolbar at the bottom of the app. As we mentioned in the Intro document,the Toolbar contains controls/tools that are relevant to the module you are studying. This is a general example of what you may come across…
Note: A general rule is that the controls will always be on the left and any tools and settings will be on the right.

Badges (Overview)

Badges & Progress
The Badge section of this app is the quickest way to view your overall progress in HVAC 4.0.
This section displays the course categories, courses, course modes and individual progress meters (or badges). The badges for Electricity for HVAC and HVAC-TS vary slightly. We will discuss this on the next page.

Electricity for HVAC Badges

Training Mode Badge
Players are awarded a badge when
they complete the training mode.
Some Training Modes have
multiple parts (Ex. 4
sub-lessons)
If you haven’t met the specified
criteria you will only see a numeric
value.
Challenge Mode Badges
Players are awarded
badges when they hit a
certain criteria on a quiz
(Ex, 90%).

Different badges are
rewarded for your total %
If you haven’t met the
specified criteria you will
only see a numeric value.

HVAC Troubleshooting Badges

Training Mode Badge
Players are awarded a badge when
they complete the training mode.
Some Training Modes have
multiple faults
(Ex. 20 faults)
If you haven’t met the specified
criteria you will only see a numeric
value
Challenge Mode Badges
Players are awarded a badge
when they complete 10
challenges
Different badges are rewarded
for your total number of
challenges completed.
If you haven’t met the specified
criteria you will only see a
numeric value.

Here are the available classrooms.
You can search for a specific one.
They are organized by Instructor, Student and Other.
You can also create a classroom!
To get more information on a class, just select one
from the list.
